This is an interesting short story that I started reading without really knowing what to expect. It follows a youngin named Illix who has just received his seed. We donโ€™t really know much about this process, but what is revealed is definitely not what I was expecting.

The Short Review:
I thoroughly enjoyed India Emeraldโ€™s writing style. She uses playful language that doesnโ€™t distract from the story all while pushing the plot along. The main characterโ€™s development was believable and the struggles he faces are heart wrenching. Aside from Illix, it seemed the story of Cris ended prematurely and I wish the author had elaborated a little bit more on this. In addition, there is a jolting POV switch that I wasnโ€™t ready for. Perhaps this is the intent of the author, but Iโ€™m not sure.
While I wish there was more time spent on this Head Leaf and the world Illix lives in, I still found the story intriguing. It is a short, little read filled with big surprises!
